Week 8: The Sunday of Orthodoxy

The Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy is celebrated on the first Sunday of Great Lent. It is the celebration of the victory of the iconodules over the iconoclasts by the decision of the Seventh Ecumenical Council (Orthodoxwiki.org)

Everybody brought their icons this year to the Sunday of Orthodoxy!  Big and small, handwritten and heirloom, old and new, the icons came and we held them during the procession around the church.  What a joy to see the image of each beautiful saint as we stopped around the four corners of the church to pray. The children were delighted to carry their name-saints during the service and somehow managed to stay quite composed even though, at that point, we’d all been standing for 2 ½ hours. Appropriately, the unseasonably cold morning gave way to clear skies and temperatures just warm enough to feel comfortable during the procession and prayers.
