A Shrine to St. Nektarios

A Shrine to St. Nektarios

A photo a week from our life in Christ in the Orthodox Church

We were in Charlotte recently for a wedding at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church.  If you’ve seen the recent movie, Man of God, you are familiar with St. Nektarios of Aegina and his ministry at the Holy Trinity Convent there.  In the morning before the wedding, we went to Liturgy at St. Nektarios to discover his beautiful shrine to the front right of the nave.  What a lovely place to bring your children and godchildren when they get a little fidgety during the service.  The bright and vivid icons there tell his humble story.  My favorite was the icon of St. Nektarios and the angels protecting the traveling school bus children.  St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church graciously supplies its visitors with little clear gift boxes which include an icon, a little booklet telling the story of St. Nektarios’s life, a little bottle of holy oil, and a little bottle of holy water.
